On a small budget or no budget you can renew, refresh and repurpose the rooms in your home without touching your wallet! The best way to start is clear everything out of the room and follow my top 4 designer secrets.
#1 Repurpose Rooms
Adding more space isn’t always the answer. You may only need to rethink and repurpose what you have. You’ll find as the needs of your family change, so will the use of your space. In my home, as the kids grew older they needed more “play” space so I swapped the playroom with my larger office and it worked out perfectly and didn’t cost a cent.
#2 Rearrange Furniture
If your living room has a couch, two chairs, a coffee table and an end table imagine new ways to rearrange the furniture. Would the sofa look better in front of the windows? Can you angle the coffee table differently or separate the pair of chairs? Rearranging furniture will make the space feel new again without spending a penny.
#3 Mix It Up
As you rearrange think about swapping pieces from other rooms. The living room end table would make a great bedside table, especially with a new coat of paint. Maybe the side chairs would make great lounge chairs for the master bedroom or can serve as end chairs for the dining room table.
Mixing it up applies to accessories too! Swap artwork, pillows, chairs, curtains or side tables from other rooms to change the look and feel of a room. Release yourself from the constraints of using everything in the same way you have been.
#4 Paint Furniture or Accent Wall
Paint a piece of furniture or an accent wall using left over paint. You can even turn the leftover paint into chalk paint by mixing 2 parts paint to 1 part baking soda and make the piece of furniture into something unique and brand new for $0.
